Thursday, September 23: Blanket plays with The Natural History at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. Picked up by Startime International, The Natural History deservedly share the company of such diverse and esteemed artists as dios, the Walkmen, the French Kicks, and Brendan Benson on this touted new indie label. Indicative of the burgeoning NYC rock renaissance garden from which it springs (specifically Williamsburg, Brooklyn), The Natural History wears its influences on its sleeve… and that’s a good thing when it’s Elvis Costello, The Kinks, The Beatles, Wire, and XTC all rolled together in a fresh new spleef of instantly accessible organic cool pop. Toe tapping and head nodding are mandatory listening requirements and inhaling is recommended. Finally, a new band with strong yet smooth songs that shoot straight from the hip and make you want to lie in the grass and soak up the sun. A tree grows in Brooklyn indeed… Pitchfork Media's review of Natural History

Blanket plays with the Starlite Desperation on Friday, August 27 at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. Come bask in a night of rock & roll rollicking because “today, the Starlite Desperation perches at the forefront of the emerging Southern California ‘smog-psych’ sound, where acid-rock meets garage punk; buzzing fuzz guitars slip lysergic into mod pop; sun-bleached minds raised on Love, Spacemen 3 and hardcore turn rock history in on itself.”—excerpt from Skyscraper Magazine July ‘04. Sunday, September 21: Blanket plays with Television at the Fillmore in SF! One of the most influential indie bands to date, Television wrote the rules for the New York post-punk sound and then broke them whenever they felt like it. Television defied being typecast or constrained by neatly falling into any one genre and effortlessly intertwined elements of punk, jazz, and pop into a music that was truly different with songs that were beautiful, heartfelt, unaffectedly intricate, but always very cool. Other NYC bands like the Strokes and Interpol owe a heavy debt to Television for the sound that they are now popularizing. Earlier this month, Rolling Stone released its "100 greatest guitarists of all time" issue with Television guitarist Tom Verlaine making #56 just beating out Ed O'Brien & Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead (#59 & #60) and whipping Angus Young of AC/DC (a merciless #96)! Saturday, October 18: Blanket plays with Papa M at the Bottom of the Hill in SF! Papa M is David Pajo's solo project. Pajo is well known as the versatile guitarist from the seminal indie band Slint. He's also everybody's favorite guitarist to use on recordings and tours working with Stereolab, Tortoise, Palace, King Kong, and the Royal Trux, to name a few. He's now garnering international attention playing guitar in Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan's new supergroup Zwan. Go to Papa M for info on the band, and for more info on Pajo's projects & history, go to www.epitonic.com

Sunday, June 8: Blanket plays with the legendary Buzzcocks at The Fillmore in SF! This line from their bio pretty much sums it up: "Three bands from the now mythical 1976/77 British punk explosion set the benchmarks for everything that was to follow - Sex Pistols, the Clash Buzzcocks." Add to this the fact that the highly respected indie label Merge recently saw fit to release their new full-length record which is jam packed with new infectious, pop-punk gems that reflect their trademark sound, but also continue to push the experimental envelope. Expect to witness high-energy, no bullshit punk rock made by the original masters that defined it. Catch a live preview Friday night, June 6 when they perform live on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn! This show may sell out soon, so click here for show info...

Thursday, June 19: Blanket opens for Luna's Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham at The Great American Music Hall in SF! Phillips and Wareham somehow made time amidst their busy roles as the principal singers/songwriters in the beloved dream-pop band Luna to make a new record together entitled "L'Avventura." Although not a complete departure from the melancholic, textured, Velvet Underground-influenced sound for which Luna is revered, this is a departure for them in that they allow themselves to completely give into their penchant for more romantic, lush, and playful material. Since Luna's live act tends to be more rock than their recordings, it'll be interesting to see how Phillips & Wareham (also known as the singer/guitarist for the pivotal indie band Galaxie 500) decide to execute live renditions of this new material. This is, more than likely, a one time opportunity to see them in this format as they're just doing a handful of shows and then they're back on the Luna wagon. A definite must-see for diehard Luna fans. This show may sell out soon, so click here for all the show info...

Sunday, November 3: Blanket plays with D.C.'s The Dismemberment Plan at the Great American Music Hall in SF! The Dismemberment Plan is considered one of the most ground-breaking & innovative emo bands around today, crafting beautiful songs that defy typical preconceptions about what emo is and can be. Also, they put on an amazing and intense live show. Qualifying them as simply a successful emo band would be an inexcusably narrow representation so definitely go to their site and read their press to understand why you should not miss this bill... http://www.dismembermentplan.com/press/ As one critic noted, "Combine the pop daring of Prince, melodic sense of Elvis Costello and the rhythmic energy of Shudder to Think and you're still only halfway there." The Dismemberment Plan's pals Engine Down are the middle band. This show may sell out soon, so click here for all the show info...

On Friday, October 25 at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, Blanket is proud to open for one of the most influential musicians in rock, J Mascis. For those who may not already know, as the singer/guitarist/songwriter for the seminal post punk band Dinosaur Jr. in the late 80's & most of the 90's, Mascis helped define 'alternative' rock through a series of critically lauded releases that not only dominated college radio, but simultaneously broke through into mainstream rock radio as well, earning the band a widespread fan base and setting the stage for the acceptance and the commercial success of bands like Nirvana. The middle band, Cobra Verde, delivers intelligent art rock that rocks from the fertile flatlands of Cleveland, Ohio and is expected to play some numbers with Mascis. Robert Pollard liked Cobra Verde so much he tapped them to take over all instrumental duties on Guided by Voices' most rock & roll release to date, 'Mag Earwhig,' and, with Pollard, toured as Guided by Voices to support that release.
